Chipset
In a computer system, a chipset is a set of electronic components in an integrated circuit that manages the data flow between the processor, memory and peripherals. It is usually found on the motherboard. Chipsets are usually designed to work with a specific family of microprocessors. Because it controls communications between the processor and external devices, the chipset plays a crucial role in determining system performance.
Northbridge (Memory Controller Hub)
As you can see on the picture above, Northbridge (Memory Controller Hub) is the one that connects the CPU to memory and high speed graphics card. It is all about high speed communication. SOME MODERN COMPUTERS INCLUDE A FAN JUST FOR THE NORTHBRIDGE TO COOL IT DOWN! HIGH SPEED = VERY HOT MY FRIENDS!
SouthBridge
As you can see on the picture above and on the first picture, the southbridge is the one that manages the connections. it does not go as fast as the northbridge because it does not handle high speed. it handles lower stuff like PCI slots, USB, Ethernet, IDE, hardrive, and the BIOS.
Thanks for sharing the info, keep up the good work going.... I really enjoyed exploring your site. good resource...
