CPU's and CPU's Sockets - CompTia A + Plus Cetification
A CPU socket or CPU slot is a mechanical component(s) that provides mechanical and electrical connections between a microprocessor and a printed circuit board (PCB). This allows the CPU to be placed and replaced without soldering. There are 4 different types of CPU socket!
They do not make them anymore. They were easy to break and hafd to insert it into the CPU socket
People did not like it because it took a lot of room on the motherboard, so they decided to come out with the Intel Pentium III
.
It is smaller than SECC. To Install a Pin Grid Array CPU the motherboard needs to have a zero insertion Forze (ZIF) Socket Like the One on the picture below.
Instead of the CPU having the PINs the motherboard has them. It is found on moderm models processor.
The land grid array (LGA) is a type of surface-mount packaging for integrated circuits (ICs) that is notable for having the pins on the socket rather than the integrated circuit. An LGA can be electrically connected to a printed circuit board (PCB) either by the use of a socket or by soldering directly to the board.
